There are actually two islets named Mây Rút: Mây Rút Trong and Mây Rút Ngoài. Of the two, Mây Rút Trong is particularly popular for its beautiful beaches and natural surroundings.

According to a local explanation, its name comes from its position behind Mây Rút Ngoài, giving the impression that the islet is hidden behind a “veil of clouds”. Today, it is a delightful destination for swimming, relaxation and boat excursions around Phú Quốc.

Phú Quôc Prison

Phú Quốc Prison, also known as the Phú Quốc Prisoner of War Camp, was one of the largest detention centres in southern Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Between 1967 and 1973, tens of thousands of prisoners were held there under extremely harsh conditions.

The camp was divided into several sections surrounded by fences and guard posts. Prisoners were subjected to various forms of mistreatment and torture, some of which are now documented through reconstructions, photographs and historical records.

Many prisoners lost their lives or suffered lasting physical and psychological injuries, while others managed to escape despite the harsh conditions. Today, the site serves as an important place of remembrance, offering visitors a deeper understanding of this painful chapter in Vietnam’s history.

The visit can be particularly moving due to the reconstructed scenes and personal testimonies presented throughout the site.
